Trail Designer
Trail Designer is an interactive mapping tool that enables you to create your own trails. It uses digital maps provided by Ordnance Survey. Different map scales are loaded as you zoom in and out. The scale 1:50k, i.e. the Landranger map series, is perhaps most useful for plotting routes.
After you have created your trail you can view it from your mobile phone when you are out walking or cycling the route. For more information please click here.

How to Use the Interactive Map
You can centre the map and zoom in to a scale of 1:50k by choosing a place name or providing a post code or grid reference using the Centre Map options above.
The map can be centred manually with the arrows keys or by clicking on the map, holding the button down and dragging in the direction you want to go.
The + and - buttons can also be used to zoom in and out.
The grid reference of the mouse position is shown in the top right-hand corner of the map. As you move the mouse the grid reference will change accordingly.
Plotting a Trail
A single click on the map will place a trail marker. The first marker will be shown in red indicating the trail start point. Trail markers can be moved after they have been placed by clicking on the marker, holding the button down and dragging in the direction you want to go.
Tip: if two markers need to be placed on the same spot, place the second marker close to the first and then drag it into position.
Save the trail if you would like others to view it. Please note: if you refresh or leave the page before the trail is saved the trail information will be lost. Pressing on the browser back button will not restore the trail.
